Jane's Room

I haven't talked about our house too much because we've just been so busy with it. We've worked really hard but it's been, seriously, the most fun I've ever had. I really do love this house...it totally suits me. Initially I was disappointed that we weren't going to build but I must have forgotten how much I love old houses and neighborhoods! It feels really good to be in a solid house that has held up so well for 60+ years. There are houses we looked at that were built 15 years ago and are already falling apart. Do I sound like a Grandma?
They just don't build things the way they used to!? :)
So, we'll build one day...but the longer I live in this house the more I can't imagine ever leaving it.

It seems really overwhelming to put up pictures of the whole house so Mary told me to do one room at a time (or, at least, the most important ones). She's a genius! So, I decided to do Jane's room first. Oh, how my soul has loved having a girl and making a magical place for her...

Here's the room before. You can't really tell in this shot but it's very small. Perfect for a nursery?! The floors were already done, no wall paper, no damage to repair...did I mention this is great house? :) We even kept that old light fixture and put it in Luke's room...which is really cute too :)

This is my sweet and talented friend Krissy that flew in town just to help with the house (I'm doing some work for her so were doing a bit of trading). Her mom is an amazing designer and her Dad is a gifted artist and she happened to get the best of both of them. When I was picking a color for Jane's room I just kept coming back to pink. Everything else just felt like a color that could be in a kitchen or bathroom...not a little girl's room. So Krissy suggested this one :). She said that pink and yellow are two of the hardest colors to choose. Most pinks, even when they're light, turn totally bubble gum and electric on the wall. Which people think they want but then find it very tedious over time. This is such a livable pink....it feels really good being in this room. Plus, you can totally throw in some of the more trendy pinks (Jane's crib bedding) in here and they still work with the color.

When Krissy said that she thought it would be neat to paint a mural in Jane's room I was seriously giddy. But it was a little tricky picking something. We looked at tons of stuff--illustrations from classic children's literature, whimsical animals, flowers...but most of it seemed very young and we wanted something that she could grow with. I think this tree was perfect.
So help me, Jane better not dye her hair black (if she ever gets any), start listening to garbage music, and try and paint over this one day! I'm SURE she will :( Oh well, we'll enjoy until then.

Luke and Jane

I know, I know, it's been forever! I have so much to blog about it scares me. We're all happy, healthy, and loving our new home! I promise I'll post pictures of the house soon but I thought I'd throw some cute pics of my kids up first.

Toothless Angels

Just look at these two kids of mine...seriously delicious.

Pretty soon Jane is going to have more teeth Luke! He has lost his two front teeth and the bottom four for a grand total of six teeth in six months. It makes my toes tingle just thinking about him wiggling them back and forth, back and forth. Ew. I am happy to report that I still love him and think he's cute...I wasn't sure I would post-baby teeth. :)

Katelyn and Sam

Since I am, apparently, never going to blog about my family again I guess I'll throw up some of my current weddings. A lot of my Salt Lake/Bountiful clients are starting to come up to Ogden for their shoots...yay! One of the things that is the hardest about working has been the driving. Even if I only shoot for an hour or so I still have to drive to Salt Lake and back....it hardly seems worth it. So, it's pretty painless when they come up here. PLUS, they get fabulous photos because I'm in such a better mood. :)

So, we got a couple bids back on the house I have my heart set on building and they came back a bit too high. In about five years we'll be able to more comfortably and responsibly afford it. We could adjust and build something more affordable but this is the house that I plan on being in forever and I don't want to waste our lot on something I don't love. In the mean time we've decided to buy and it's a bit of an emotional roller coaster. It's been tricky to not get my heart set on things that for one reason or another aren't the best place to move our family...but we found a darling little 4-bedroom house Darling Street in Ogden. It's a great street in a great neighborhood and I'm really hoping it all works out!! I'll keep you posted. It's directly across the street from Grandma Betty (Uncle Bruce's mother).

Take your baby to work day

I've been trying to work as little as possible since I had Jane. David has said no to countless weddings but every once in awhile we get the clients that convince us by saying "Oh, just bring your baby!" So those are the few weddings we've accepted. David takes care of Jane and stays out of the spotlight most of the night. I've only have to sneak out one time to feed her and it only takes her about five minutes to eat. Most people don't even realize she's there. She's been amazing! This might sound crazy to some of you but it's the only way I'm willing to keep doing this for now. I'm not going to leave Jane for 8 hours. I'm just not. And it's seems to be working out really well.

Ashley's weddingThis was the first wedding I did after I delivered. I had agreed to shoot this wedding earlier in year before they were officially engaged. It was surprise when they finally decided to get married the month after I was due. Jane was four weeks old....I could only find evidence she was there in this shot. She didn't make a peep all day.

I always find a little bit of time to hold and kiss her and then back to Daddy she goes. Love her.
